Gahanna Middle School East: Sack Attack Fund Raiser The students of GMSE took it upon themselves and started their own fund raising drive for Prostate Cancer. During the months of September and October, students passed buckets around their classrooms collecting spare change from any kids willing to help the cause to fight prostate cancer. On Monday, November 19th, GMSE presented a check from the students for $1677 to the First Friday Foundation!!!! A truly amazing and selfless act from kids that wanted to make a difference. We can't begin to express our gratitude. You're time, hard work, and dedication should make the whole community proud!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

FirstFriday: Tackle Cancer Campaign 9/7/07. First Friday night in September for all Ohio High School Football games. 

Pass the Helmet Campaign... 9/7/07. The First Friday Foundation will be at all OCC games the night of First Friday with a fund raising drive. We will be selling blue wristbands with a $3 donation, have information on hand about Prostate Cancer. Look for the "DONATE BANNER" and the volunteers with white "DONATE" buckets.

 

FirstFriday Tackle Cancer Campaign is a public awareness health initiative jointly sponsored by the FirstFridayFoundation, the Ohio High School Athletic Association and the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association. It is held in September in conjunction with Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. High school football players, football coaches and football officials join in an effort to make the public more aware of prostate cancer screening and risk factors.

Football Players:
All high school football players will receive a player card detailing the risk factors, diagnosis and treatment options for prostate cancer. They will share the information on this card with their parents. A sample is posted on the right.

Football Coaches:        
Head coaches will be provided with a light blue wristband to wear on game day as recognition of their efforts to inform their players and community about prostate cancer as a health issue.  Coaches will also distribute player information cards to their players to share with their families.

Football Officials:
Officials working the games played on 9/1/06 or 9/2/06 will wear wristbands in recognition of their effort to inform themselves about prostate cancer, will confirm with  head coaches that they have distributed the player cards to their team and confirm that the head coach is wearing a blue as a recognition of their efforts to inform their community about prostate cancer.

Athletic Directors:
Athletic directors will be asked that the special pregame announcements be read over the Public address system, and that special mention be made when the captains, coaches and officials meet at midfield prior to the kickoff.  In addition a program insert will be provided so that attendees will receive information about prostate cancer. The Ohio High school Athletic Association will provide  the insert.

Kickoff:
Team captains, head coaches and game officials will gather at the 50 yard line hash mark just prior to kickoff  to join together as the public service announcement is read regarding FirstFriday.

You may become involved by:

  • Offering to assist your local coach/athletic director in coordinating FirstFriday activities
  • Offering to sponsor/coordinate a fund raiser at your local school for one of the options offered by the OHSAA.
  • Offering to sponsor the cards/wristband promotion for your school offering to donate to the OHSAA FirstFriday Fund to support the ongoing public health  awareness programs of OHSAA. Refer to the donate page for donation procedures
